The Diary of a Broken Heart (DoBH-10)

10. The gods we Chose

DoBH – Kings ’13 – 12′

February 22nd 2024

“Let no one put asunder what God has joined together,” they say.
But we were not sculpted by divine hands;
We were mortals playing gods,
Blind to the dormant divinity within.

I bowed to your god of provision,
Craving security and acceptance like a desert thirsts for rain.
My father’s sins became your leverage,
Offering me sustenance I thought essential,
What else could I have needed?
Though it wasn’t Saturn’s bounty I truly yearned for,
Ours was a fire stoked from infernal embers,
Giving warmth to our bodies, if nothing else.

You chased a god of pleasure,
Finding it in the hidden canyons of my inadequacy,
Echoing in the silence of my neglect.
You proclaimed it sanctity,
Raising me onto Corinthian altars—
Where at least, we stood as equals.
Two mortals assuming godly roles,
Lost in our pursuit of glory
And mistaking greed and lust for grace.

If only we had known,
That we are gods already,
But chose lesser deities.
